Purple!

I am really enjoying the color purple. It first wooed me back in 2006 with this pillow I found in Mexico, and just couldn't leave.

Then it was these two prints from Artist and Graphic Designer, Rex Ray, that I found online. They are now framed and hanging in my guestroom.

Next, while attempting to follow a list at Ikea, I got sucked into buying this amazing rug. It is in my office/studio and I couldn't be happier.

So, with all this purple floating around, my goal is to design some purple inspired cards. Stay tuned to see what I come up with!
Happy 2010!

Yes, I know it has been a while. But it is a new year and now it is time for a new start. This past Christmas, instead of doing a traditional pen & ink card, I designed some photo cards for my family. There are so many great photo card designs online but I wanted to practice my InDesign/Illustrator skills, so I searched the Internet for inspiration and this is what I came up with…

In Search of Common Ground

Lately, my creative juices have been stuck in my head and have not made their way to paper (or any other medium). So even though I have not been creating art, I have been supporting the arts. Today, I spent the day at Gallery 263, run by a wonderful women/artist named Annie, on Pearl Street in Cambridge, MA for the opening of Tim Gough’s new show, In Search of Common Ground. Again the show was inspiring with a mixture of old and new pieces. I love seeing Tim’s old pieces in a different space because it makes you think about them in a new way. If you are in the Boston area, check out Tim’s show. It will be at Gallery 263 until the end of August and is definitely worth a trip. Until you get there to see his pieces in person, here are some images to get you thinking.

San Francisco!!

In March, I took a little trip to San Francisco. It was the first time I had been to the city and it is now one of my favorites. I had the opportunity to catch up with lots of awesome friends, see some amazing sights and eat even awesomer food! Good thing we walked everywhere, since I basically ate my way through the city. San Francisco is so eclectic, so in homage to a very cool city, I created a mini collage with some trip highlights. I used to make these all the time growing up, just not on the computer, so check it out below.

Dots Thank You Note - Green & Brown

In March, I headed out to San Francisco for a good college friend's wedding. Her invitations were green and her save - the - date had dots on it which inspired me to create this little thank you note.

The brown is chocolaty (C=50 M=70 Y=80 K=70) and the green is a bright lime (C=33 M=0 Y=73 K=0).

A little V-Day love from Sarah Crane Cards...

The card was designed using Adobe InDesign. It is not complicated but just my way to spread a little love on February 14. The awesome photo was taken while on vacation in Quebec with our good friends Matt and Liz Hinkley, who just happen to be amazing photographers and the owners of HinkleyPhoto.

Art Show Roadtrip!

Timothy Gough, my brother-in-law, is a Boston based artist who's second show opened on February 1 in the Hampden Gallery at UMASS Amherst. The show titled, The Resulting Effect, showcased Tim's new pieces which used nails, ping pong balls and staples (common objects) to create interesting and extraordinary works of art. Below are pictures of some of his pieces but since I am not a photographer my photos can not do his art justice. So check out the exhibit at UMASS until February 26! You will be blown away.

Baby Shower Invitation

Well - I am on a little baby shower kick! My second invitation is for my good friends M & L who are expecting their first child in February. At the time I designed this invitation they didn't know their baby's gender so I went neutral. They recently found out they are having a girl. Congratulations! Can't wait to meet her.
